The importance of your support
Our ministry in Tanzania has always been based upon the vision of developing a high quality, sustainable, Tanzanian model for health care and education.
The church becomes involved not just with worship and building churches, but with health, education, water, justice, and human rights.
The long term goal has always been to develop Tanzanian staff and operational systems which will assure sustainability.
The Diocese now sponsors six secondary schools, two hospitals, and twelve rural dispensaries in the region. A wonderful example of the holistic work and relationships in this vision is the MaaSae Girls Lutheran Secondary School
The new hospital intends to become self funding by offering its services to the general public in the Arusha region and using that revenue to keep delivering non-profit care to the some of the poorest people in the world.
The current expansion plan is being funded through gifts from the public. The Lutheran church has donated the land for the hospital and their overseas congregations have generously given money. Gifts are US tax-deductible.
Gifts for the school come from individuals, congregations and organizations — mostly in the United States, Denmark, Holland, Canada and Germany.
Students are supported by scholarships of US$700 per school year. Without scholarships, 95% of the students would be unable to attend the school.
Other gifts are given to the Shule Fund, a discretionary fund which covers incidentals and unforeseen expenses for the girls, as well as their classroom projects.
Operation Bootstrap Africa administers the Scholarships, Shule Fund and teachers' salaries.
All gifts to the School are US tax-deductible when given through
Operation Bootstrap Africa.
We also hope to see that the coffee plantation on which the school is located will eventually support the school.
